how to get rid of toxins in your body

We have become exposed to an increasing number of chemicals in our food supply, the air we breathe, and through many common items we use daily including cosmetics and household cleaner.

Toxins can and do negatively affect every part of the body. Toxic effects on the brain include poor memory and concentration, erratic behavior, word confusion, mood issues, headaches, vertigo, and cravings. Toxic brain exposures, as from alcohol abuse, are also linked to accelerated mental decline.

Fortunately, your body is well-equipped to eliminate toxins and doesn't require special diets or expensive supplements to do so.

The four major organs that eliminate waste and harmful substances are the liver, kidneys, colon and skin.

After your small intestine absorbs the nutrients from what you eat and pushes them into your bloodstream, your large intestine gets rid of whatever remains.

The liver plays a key role in digestion, too, but it also performs many other functions. One of these is filtering your blood to neutralize, and help your body get rid of, potentially harmful substances.

Your kidneys filter your blood as well, removing byproducts of digestion and other bodily processes by producing the urine that flushes them from your body.

Here is a list with some practices that you can incorporate into a seven-day juice fast to cleanse your body of harmful toxins.

Hot-and-Cold Water Therapy

You can stimulate lymphatic and blood circulation when showering by alternating hot and cold water after you've completed your regular shower routine. This greatly facilitates detoxification and the cleansing of wastes from the body. Use hot water for 1 to 2 minutes, then follow with cold water for 30 seconds, directing the cold water to all areas of your body. Repeat the sequence three times, finishing with cold water. This therapy will close your pores, bring blood to the surface, increase circulation (which helps to cleanse the body of toxins), tighten the skin, and leave you feeling invigorated.

Sweat it Out

Sweating lets your skin release toxins, so get to the gym and work it out! Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and regular exercise can eliminate up to 20 percent of toxins from inside. You can also work up a beneficial sweat from sitting in a sauna or steam room instead.

Castor Oil Packs

Castor oil (ricinus communis) comes from the castor seed, native to India. It is extremely high in ricinoleic acid, which is thought to be responsible for its health-promoting abilities. In fact, it was once called palma christe because its leaves resembled the hands of Christ. It is important to note that while castor oil is said to have health benefits, the castor seed itself can be deadly. Internal use of castor oil can be safe, but warrants caution.

During a fast and at other times, a castor oil pack can be placed over abnormal skin growths or skin conditions, areas affected by bursitis, inflamed and swollen joints, and muscle strains. A castor oil pack also can be placed on the right side of the abdomen to stimulate the liver to cleanse the body, in the middle of the abdomen to relieve constipation and other digestive disorders, and on the lower abdomen to relieve menstrual irregularities and ovarian and uterine cysts. Castor oil should not be applied to broken skin or used during menstruation, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

The idea is to keep castor oil on a piece of cloth on the skin for at least an hour with a heat source to stimulate lymph and liver function. Unlike some “detox” methods, this is not said to have any negative side effects and the there are many accounts of people who noticed immediate better sleep, more energy, and clearing of skin symptoms.

Dry Skin Brushing

The skin is the largest organ of elimination and hence plays a crucial role in bodily detoxification. It releases great amounts of body waste, but its function can be inhibited by dead skin cells, excreted toxins, external pollution, and skin care products. If your skin cannot efficiently release toxins, you may experience acne, body odor, eczema, hives, itchiness, rashes, and psoriasis. If toxins are unable to escape through the skin, they’ll either be stored in fat cells, which contributes to cellulite and other fatty deposits, or they’ll be recirculated back into the bloodstream, which overworks the kidneys, liver, and other organs. Dry skin brushing removes dead skin cells and stimulates the flow of lymph, the fluid that surrounds cells, which greatly helps to cleanse the body of harmful toxins and wastes. It also increases blood flow to the skin and improves overall skin health.

Choose a dry skin brush that has natural fiber bristles and a long handle so you can reach your back and stimulate all areas of the lymph glands for full bodily detoxification.

Breathe Deeply

Along with stretching, monitoring your breathing will make a difference in how to get rid of toxins in the body. Take some time each morning to take eight to ten deep breaths, and you will experience an invigorating, relaxing beginning of the day that will stick with you for hours.

Add Lemon, Cayenne, and Vinegar to Your Water

For a great homemade morning drink, consider mixing up his cleansing drink that is a boost to your digestive system. Just fill a large glass with water and add the juice of half a lemon, ½ teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, and a pinch of cayenne pepper.

Drinking this daily before breakfast will boost your energy levels and knock out toxins from your organs for better health all day long.

Cupping Therapy

Part of traditional medicine with roots in Chinese culture, cupping therapy has been successfully applied since ancient times, with immediate beneficial results. Similar to acupuncture benefits, cupping therapy acts on several planes.

The cupping therapy is essentially centered around the idea of detoxifying the areas, on which the cupping therapy is applied to.

An accumulation of toxins in the body, can result in illness and possible infections.

By detoxifying the body, a process on which the body goes into a regenerative resting state, while simultaneously provided with the essential nutrients it needs to rebuild. This stage ensures that the body undergoes cleansing process of toxins and accumulated impurities.

Such a detoxifying process is mostly handled by our liver, lymphatic system and intestines. A cupping therapy can offer a helping hand, of speeding up the detoxifying process, by applying a suction to particular spots on the body.

During a cupping process you will experience a change in color on the surface of the skin, where the suction is applied. By lifting the upper layer of the skin, the accumulated impurities lying within are pulled towards the layer, undergoing the suction, allowing for a fresh blood flow to go through carrying oxygen and nutrients to the injured and unhealthy area.

Drink Lots of Water

Staying well hydrated is one of the better things you can do to your digestive system, as it provides your body with the fluid it needs to eliminate waste.

Keeping your levels high also makes it easier to sweat, allowing you to release toxins through your skin.

Tongue Scraping

While you sleep at night, your body is busy clearing out toxins. Some of these toxins are deposited on your tongue. During a juice fast, your tongue might develop a thick coating or possibly taste strange when you wake up—a sign that you need to cleanse your body. By gently scraping this coating off first thing in the morning, you avoid reabsorbing toxins and help your breath smell better.

When the tongue is clean, the taste buds function optimally and are able to communicate more clearly with the rest of the body. For example, you’ll get digestive secretions when you need them, and you’ll also get the message that your stomach is full earlier.

A tongue scraper is generally U-shaped and can be purchased at most drugstores or natural food stores. Using a tongue scraper is more effective than brushing your tongue with your toothbrush, which tends to stir up bacteria and plaque but not remove them from your mouth. Choose a metal tongue scraper over a plastic version.
